GET TOGETHER – He Is our Defender

Ps 121:5-8 The LORD is your keeper; The LORD is your shade at your right hand. The sun shall not strike you by day, Nor the moon by night.The LORD shall preserve you from all evil; He shall preserve your soul. The LORD shall preserve your going out and your coming in From this time forth, and even forevermore.(NKJV)

This morning as J.J. and I were having our prayer time and our time of meeting the Lord in the Scriptures we were sitting in our sunroom. Outside our sunroom, as I have mentioned before, you can see the hummingbirds come to the feeder that J.J. maintains to feed them with. Those hummingbirds amaze us. We talk about what a Creator we serve that could design something like a hummingbird and yet create all the stars, the planets, and everything else in existence.

One time when I looked up to see the hummingbirds, I noticed that our cat had moved from the back of the house and was right in front of the hummingbird feeder. Immediately those hummingbirds flew away. By the way that cat wouldn’t be around if it wasn’t for this passage in Proverbs Pr 12:10 ¶ A righteous man regards the life of his animal, But the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel. (NKJV) And it is also a good thing for her that she has done a good job keeping the snakes away.

I told the cat to get away. I then went to our back porch and put some food in her tray. The hummingbirds came back and began to feast again on the mixture of water and sugar that J.J. has for them.

Here were just a few thoughts that I had after that. Our Heavenly Father is watching over us. And just like He gave those hummingbirds wings to fly and to avoid the enemy. He has given us the Holy Spirit to warn us when the enemy is coming and trying to do what Jesus said that his mission is in Joh 10:10 “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”

Many times, the way that the enemy wants to kill, steal, and destroy our testimony for Jesus Christ is by coming through temptation. All sin comes in three categories 1Jo 2:16 For all that is in the world–the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life–is not of the Father but is of the world. Jesus was tempted in all three categories of sin by Satan in the wilderness. (See Luke 4:1-13.) Jesus never succumbed to the temptation. He responded to the temptation with the word of God and was empowered by the Holy Spirit.

Our Heavenly Father has given us the word of God. And He has given us the Holy Spirit. So, when the enemy comes around to destroy our witness for Jesus Christ we can respond with the word of God and the Holy Spirit will empower us to resist the devil.

That cat had to flee when a stronger voice came on the scene. The Holy Spirit indwelling us is a stronger voice that any and every demon in Hell. He is also stronger that Satan. Those hummingbirds had a way of escape from the danger that would have cost them their life. The Holy Spirit will make a way for us to escape when the enemy comes and tries to kill our witness for Jesus Christ and to steal our testimony from us. Paul shared this with the church at Corinth. Corinth was a very sensual city. It was one of those places where people might say “what happens in Corinth stays in Corinth.” 1Co 10:13 “No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.”

When the enemy comes at you to bring harm to you, or to destroy your testimony stand on the promises that are in this passage and the power of the Holy Spirit: Ps 121:5-8 The LORD is your keeper; The LORD is your shade at your right hand. Let Us Pray

Lord, we thank you that whether it is temptation to sin, or danger in some other way that You are our keeper. You will preserve us from all evil. You will preserve our souls! You will preserve our going out and our coming in. Today help us to get in your word. Fill us anew with Your Holy Spirit and help us to resist the devil. May we be used by You to bring others into the Kingdom.
