GET TOGETHER – HANGING ON BY A THREAD

GET TOGETHER – HANGING ON BY A THREAD

Jos 2:18-21 “unless, when we come into the land, you bind this line of scarlet cord in the window through which you let us down, and unless you bring your father, your mother, your brothers, and all your father’s household to your own home. “So it shall be that whoever goes outside the doors of your house into the street, his blood shall be on his own head, and we will be guiltless. And whoever is with you in the house, his blood shall be on our head if a hand is laid on him. “And if you tell this business of ours, then we will be free from your oath which you made us swear.” Then she said, “According to your words, so be it.” And she sent them away, and they departed. And she bound the scarlet cord in the window.

Perhaps you have heard the expression that we say here in Northwest Alabama that old saying: “she was just hanging on by a thread” when he or she was in danger, or about to experience some life-threatening situation.  Well, that was certainly true in the case of Rahab.  And, it wasn’t just a thread it was a cord that we would see that she needed in the situation that she was in.

The Army of Israel was approaching the city of Jericho. Rahab like others had heard the accounts of what the God of Israel had done for his people.   Her hearing of this is written about in Jos 2:10,11 “For we have heard how the LORD dried up the water of the Red Sea for you when you came out of Egypt, and what you did to the two kings of the Amorites who were on the other side of the Jordan, Sihon and Og, whom you utterly destroyed. “And as soon as we heard these things, our hearts melted; neither did there remain any more courage in anyone because of you, for the LORD your God, He is God in heaven above and on earth beneath.”

She demonstrates her faith by hiding out the spies that Joshua has sent to spy out the city.  She hides them on the roof of our house and covers them with flax. We see in the passage above where the spies agree with her that she and her household will be spared when the city is taken if she binds the scarlet cord out of the window. And in the following passages we see where she and her family were spared and would gain a new life with the people of God. Jos 6:23,25 “And the young men who had been spies went in and brought out Rahab, her father, her mother, her brothers, and all that she had. So they brought out all her relatives and left them outside the camp of Israel.  And Joshua spared Rahab the harlot, her father’s household, and all that she had. So, she dwells in Israel to this day, because she hid the messengers whom Joshua sent to spy out Jericho.”

She had demonstrated her faith in the God of Israel by hiding the spies in her house. She was saved by putting out the scarlet cord.  She trusted that Blood red cord to spare her life and the life of her household. And they had to trust in it as well.   She and her household made the decision to put their trust in the God of Israel to save them from destruction.  Rahab is listed in what some of us refer to as God’s Hall of Fame also known as the Faith Chapter in  Heb 11:31 “By faith the harlot Rahab did not perish with those who did not believe, when she had received the spies with peace.”

According to David Guzik in his on line Bible commentary “early church commentators such as Clement of Rome, Justin Martyr, Irenaeus and Origen saw the cord as symbolic of the Blood of  Jesus”  (https://enduringword.com/bible-commentary/joshua-2 .

The title of this message is Hanging On By A Thread. The Hebrew term for cord is actually tiqvah,  tik-vaw’.  It means cord as an attachment.  I agree with those commentators that believe that cord is symbolic of the Blood of Jesus Christ.  Today we might feel surrounded by all the uncertainty in the world. There are wars and rumors of wars across the globe. There are murders taking place everyday in neighborhoods across our nation. The basic Biblical values about gender, marriage and other biblical values are under attack.  It may appear to us that the enemy is closing in on us and that there is no hope.  Everywhere we turn, we see the epidemic of rampant drug use.

But praise God that the Blood of Jesus Christ covers us and makes us more than conquerors in all situations. We can be thankful that we really aren’t just hanging on by a thread. The cord that was hanging from Rahab’s window points us to the Blood of Jesus Christ. And through the Blood of Jesus Christ, we are more than conquerors! Because of the Blood of Jesus Christ, we are bound with that eternal three cord strand Father, Son, and Holy Spirit!  And we know that a three-cord strand cannot be broken.  Because Jesus hung on the tree we don’t have to just hang by a thread. Because Jesus rose from the dead. we can experience life and life more abundantly in season and out of season! In him and by faith in His precious Blood we have eternal life!

And just as Rahab became a part of God’s people by her faith. Through the Blood of Jesus, we became and if you haven’t, yet you can become a part of God’s people by faith in His Blood. The Apostle Paul said this in Eph 2:13,14 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. ¶ For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation.”  Rahab got a new identity. We get one too when we come to Christ. And praise God we aren’t just hanging on by a thread, but we are being held in the arms of God by the Holy Spirit.

          Let Us Pray

Lord Jesus, we thank You for every word of God being yes and Amen! We thank You that just as Rahab was saved by grace that we can be and are saved by grace today. Help us to never forget the Blood sacrifice that You made for us. And Lord help us to demonstrate our faith as Rahab did by being faithful to You and caring for those around us.

In Jesus Name

Amen

GET TOGETHER – THERE IS COMING A DAY

GET TOGETHER – THERE IS COMING A DAY

1Th 4:16,18 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words. (NKJV)

This past week as some of you know I had the great blessing of getting to share Jesus Christ at my Alma Mater the annual Dora High School Alumni Banquet.  It was such a glorious time seeing some old friends, classmates, and some wonderful Brothers and Sisters in Christ.  What a great blessing to get to see some people that I had not seen in years.  I also got to meet some people that I had not known previously.

When I was reflecting on this, I thought about how great that it will be when we get to Heaven. There will be people such as our loved ones and friends that we have not seen in years there to meet us. We won’t be restricted by time. We will be able to fellowship for as long as we like.

Think about it. We will meet people that we have never met before. We will meet the Apostle Paul and Peter. We will meet Rahab, and the woman at the well!  We will meet Jesus’ brothers and sisters. We will meet His Mother Mary and Joseph. We will meet  all the Old Testament saints as well as the New Testament ones! We will meet all the disciples. We will meet the saints that were martyred and are still being martyred for the faith. What a day that will be! And most of all we will meet Jesus! The One who took our sins upon Himself on Calvary’s cross. We will get to touch His nail scarred hands. We will get to worship and adore Him without any distractions, or time limits.

In the passage above two things that really give me great peace is that Paul says that “we will always be with the Lord.”  And “comfort one another with these words.”   What joy to know that we will be there forever and ever!  What a blessing that we can comfort one another with those words.

Now on the other hand there were some people that I would have like to have seen that were not there this past Saturday night. Some have already gone to be with the Lord. Others I am sure like me in a lot of years could not come because of family, or other commitments and many other good reasons.

When we get to Heaven there may be some people that aren’t there either. Unlike those that could not come to the Banquet because of other important activities in their lives. These may have turned down the invitation that Jesus Christ was offering to come to His Banquet which will be the greatest Banquet of all time.  The Apostle John wrote about it in Re 19:9 Then he said to me, “Write: ‘Blessed are those who are called to the marriage supper of the Lamb!'” And he said to me, “These are the true sayings of God.”

Jesus talks about those who were invited but chose not to come in Matthew 22:1-14. In  Mt 22:1-3 we see that some turned down the invitation.  “ And Jesus answered and spoke to them again by parables and said: “The kingdom of heaven is like a certain king who arranged a marriage for his son, “and sent out his servants to call those who were invited to the wedding; and they were not willing to come.” Within the rest of that passage, we see that those who turned down the invitation, or tried to get in by some other way than through Jesus Christ perished.  In verse12 and 13 we see what happens to those who refuse the invitation or try to come in by some other way. That could be either by their own works, a belief in a false god, as an atheist, or turning down the invitation for any reason  : Mt 22:12,13  “So he said to him, ‘Friend, how did you come in here without a wedding garment?’ And he was speechless. “Then the king said to the servants, ‘Bind him hand and foot, take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’

For those that have accepted that invitation we can rejoice for that time that the Apostle John speaks about in Re 21:1-6 :

Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea. Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God.”And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.” Then He who sat on the throne said, “Behold, I make all things new.” And He said to me, “Write, for these words are true and faithful.” And He said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. I will give of the fountain of the water of life freely to him who thirsts.

What a day that will be! If you have accepted the invitation let Him, use you to issue it to others. If you haven’t let today be the day that you do. I want to see you there and rejoice with you in the presence of God! As the old song goes “What a Day that will be when my Jesus I shall see!”  It’s going to be out of this world!

Let Us Pray

Lord Jesus, we thank You that You have paid the price for us to live forever in Your presence. We thank you for the promise of reuniting with our loved ones and friends that are in Christ. We thank You that we will have an opportunity to meet so many others as we worship You and fellowship with the saints throughout eternity. May all that read this that are born again walk in the assurance of Your atoning sacrifice on the cross. For any that have not accepted this invitation please draw them by the Holy Spirit to that place where they say yes to you.

In Jesus Name

Amen!

GET TOGETHER – GO TELL SOMEBODY

GET TOGETHER – GO TELL SOMEBODY

Ro 1:16,17 ¶ For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.  For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “The just shall live by faith.” (NKJV

Recently I became aware of a little girl who told another little girl that she didn’t like Easter.  The other little girl then told her that Easter was about Jesus coming out of the tomb. The first little girl said that she now liked Easter. Wow! What did Jesus say to the chief priests and scribed who were upset because the children were praising Him? Mt 21:15,16 But when the chief priests and scribes saw the wonderful things that He did, and the children crying out in the temple and saying, “Hosanna to the Son of David!” they were indignant and said to Him, “Do You hear what these are saying?” And Jesus said to them, “Yes. Have you never read, ‘Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants You have perfected praise’?”

This Sunday we will celebrate the Resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in a very special way. This week is a wonderful opportunity for all of us to share the Good News of the Resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ with those that we meet in the highways and byways.

I just left a store and the clerk told me to have a Happy Easter.  The Lord then let me share with her that it was the day that we celebrate the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. I then told her that Jesus loved her.

We live in a world that is producing a lot of bad news.  But we have the Good News! The Apostle Paul was not ashamed of the Gospel.  He lived in a culture that it certainly wasn’t popular to share the Good News. As a matter of fact, he would be beaten, stoned, run out of towns, and eventually beheaded for sharing the Good News.

Paul in the above passage tells us that it is the power of God for everyone who believes. Think about this that the same power of God that brought Jesus out of that tomb on that Sunday morningis there to bring us to the cross of Calvary. It is there to help us to live the resurrected life. It is there to help us to like the little girl that I mentioned share the Good News with others.

There is no better time than now for us not to be ashamed of the Gospel and be willing to share it with others.  Between now and Sunday pray for and ask the Holy Spirit to give you the opportunities and the courage to share the Good News of the death and Resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. There has never been a more important time in the history of humanity than right now.   When you do there may just be someone that you hear say I don’t hate Easter anymore.  And their life would be changed forever.

Let Us Pray

Lord Jesus gives us that childlike faith and courage to share what Your resurrection from the dead means to a lost and hurting world. Take away all fear of man from us.  Help us be able to say like the Apostle Paul “I am not ashamed of the Gospel for it is the power of God unto salvation.”  For when we do we know that there are eternal ramifications for those who hear it and eternal rewards for those who share it.

In Jesus Name

Amen

Have a Great Resurrection Sunday!

GET TOGETHER – Manna or Roadkill ?

GET TOGETHER – Manna or Roadkill ?
Lu 3:22 And the Holy Spirit descended in bodily form like a dove upon Him, and a voice came from heaven which said, “You are My beloved Son; in You I am well pleased.”

This morning as me and one of very good friends were riding around the beautiful countryside here in Marion County we noticed how many doves were near the road. They were in several of the fields that we passed by. I get so fired up when I see a dove.
They remind me of the Holy Spirit. We know that the Holy Spirit isn’t a bird. He is the third Person of the Godhead. On the other hand, they are a great a reminder of the grace, love, and favor of God.
We also saw several buzzards eating the roadkill on the side of the road. My friend pointed out that the buzzards are necessary to clean up some of the dead stuff that is on the side of the road and in other places.
As I was being prompted to write about this, I was thinking about how the dove reminds us of the difference in walking in the Spirit and not in the flesh. When we walk in the Spirit, we bring life to places where there needs to be life. When we walk in the Spirit, we will speak different than if we walk in the flesh. Remember the words that Jesus spoke about His words that He spoke? Joh 6:63 “It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.(NKJV) So when I see a dove it reminds me of the life giving ever present Holy Spirit. He sends that good manna from above.
When I see a buzzard, it reminds me of gossip, or fault finding. Here in Marion County we call it roadkill. I am glad that God created the buzzards to eat roadkill and not us human beings. Roadkill can come in a lot of forms. We are told in the Bible in several passages not to eat the roadkill. Here are just a few: Eph 4:31 “Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice.” Tit 3:2 to speak evil of no one, to be peaceable, gentle, showing all humility to all men.”
That is a challenge for us. We live in a culture where often if we speak the truth concerning marriage and other current issues in our culture we may get labeled as haters, ignorant, or called some other name. We are to always speak the truth in love. We are told that in Eph 4:15 “but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head–Christ”(NKJV). And remember that Jesus was full of grace, and full of truth. We are told that in Joh 1:17 For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. (NKJV) Jesus spoke the truth. But Jesus didn’t eat, or serve up roadkill. So, in this time when we may be persecuted for taking Biblical stands on a lot of issues in our culture. When that happens may we feast on the manna that the Holy Spirit gives us to feast upon. It just might bring some of the roadkill eaters over to the other side of the road where the Holy Spirit is dishing out the manna. So today make your mind up about what you desire to eat. Do you desire to eat the manna that the Holy Spirit sends from above? Or do you want to join the buzzards and eat the roadkill and dispense it to others?
Let Us Pray
Lord today in a culture where there is so much roadkill out there. Help us to be Holy Spirit lead purveyors of the manna that comes from above. May we release as the old song goes “beautiful words, wonderful words of life”
In Jesus Name
Amen

GET TOGETHER – It Is Worth It

GET TOGETHER – It Is Worth It
1Co 15:58 ¶ Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord. (NKJV)
I remember the day well. At the request of a family member, I went to see a young man that this family member had some serious concerns about the lifestyle that he was living. He lived in a small mobile home out in the country. I knocked and knocked and knocked and he never answered the door. The enemy tried to convince me that it was a wasted trip. To the best of my memory, I prayed for him before I went, and I think while I was on his property.
Later, that young man got saved at another church. He told me that he saw me sitting in my vehicle praying. This past Saturday he, his wife, and his daughter organized an outreach event in one of the housing projects here in Hamilton. The purpose of the event was to just to share the love of Jesus Christ with the residents there.

We all have similar and different roles to play in the Body of Christ. Some of us are parents and grandparents charged with bringing our children up in the training and instruction of the of the Lord. Some of us hand out Bibles to people that we may never see again on the earth. Some of us may go to the jails and recovery ministries and the adversary will try to convince us that it is waste of time. Sometimes when someone is preaching, and we encounter the blank faces the enemy will come and try to convince us that no one is listening. We must remember what Jesus said about our adversary. He said in Joh 8:44 “You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it. (NKJV)
The enemy is a purveyor of lies and bad news. But the Apostle Paul serving under the Lordship of Jesus Christ has some good news for the servants of our Lord Jesus Christ. He says 1Co 15:58 “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.” (NKJV)
So today servants of the Lord Jesus Christ hold fast to your witness and service for Him. Be settled in the fact that you will not be moved from your faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and your witness for Him. Abound in the work of the Lord. The Greek term for abound perisseuo, means to superabound. There has never been a more critical time in the Kingdom for the servants of God to superabound in the work of the Lord.
And remember that none of your labor is in vain. No visit, no prayer, no sermon, no meal cooked, no word of encouragement. None of our labor in the Lord shall be in vain. Walk in victory knowing that there may be people in Heaven because of what the Lord Jesus Christ has put on your heart to do in His Kingdom.

Let Us Pray

Lord Jesus, we thank You for these words that the Holy Spirit gave to the Apostle Paul. As the believers in Corinth lived in a culture that was so hedonistic and decadent You used them to change lives and to bring the Kingdom to Corinth. Today Lord Jesus use us in such a way that the Kingdom of God would be advanced in every way that You choose to use us in a world and culture that needs You so badly.
In Jesus Name

GET TOGETHER- Don’t Throw Rocks and Don’t Stay In The Ditch

GET TOGETHER- Don’t Throw Rocks and Don’t Stay In The Ditch

Joh 8:10-12 When Jesus had raised Himself up and saw no one but the woman, He said to her, “Woman, where are those accusers of yours? Has no one condemned you?” She said, “No one, Lord.” And Jesus said to her, “Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more.” Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness but have the light of life.”

I remember the night well. It was sometime around 1980. Three men from a church in the town that I lived in came and knocked on my door.  I was sitting there by myself. I was doing drugs, drinking, and listening to music. They witnessed to me that night and I was very rude to them.  Looking back now I know that they came by because not only did they love me and care about me, but more than that God loved me.

In those days I think that I was familiar with Jesus words to the woman caught in adultery that He spoke in Joh 8:7 So when they continued asking Him, He raised Himself up and said to them, “He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first.”  That is a very important word for us if we are going to share the love of Jesus Christ.  It helps us to allow the Holy Spirit to continue His work in our lives rooting out sinful attitudes and sinful behaviors.  But before I met Jesus Christ and surrendered my life to Him the reason that I liked that verse was so I could point my finger at Christians and continue to live the sinful lifestyle that I was living at that time.

Before coming to Jesus Christ my life was filled with gross sin. I am so thankful that just like He forgave the woman that was caught in adultery that through His death on the cross that I can know that I have been forgiven of my sins and that I am not under condemnation. And you can know that as well. The Apostle Paul wrote in Ro 8:1 ¶ There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.  Praise God for the atoning sacrifice that is in the shed blood of Jesus Christ where we can find mercy and grace : Ro 5:8,9  But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him.

Now let’s look at what else Jesus told the woman in Joh 8:11 She said, “No one, Lord.” And Jesus said to her, “Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more.” Not only did He not condemn her, but He pointed her to a better way of life.   Most of us have gotten into sinful lifestyles because we have an empty place that only God can fill. And we try to fill that empty place with sinful things that drive us further away from God.  We also live in a culture that not only affirms various lifestyles of sin, but often celebrates those lifestyles.  Jesus not only did not condemn the woman, but He pointed her in the direction that would help her to truly experience life as how He desired for her to experience life.

In Joh 10:10 He talks about the type of life that comes when we fall into the temporary pleasures of sin that the devil offers through sinful lifestyles. He also tells s of the type of life that we can have if we will repent of those sinful lifestyles and follow Him.  “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.

Warning people of the dangers of a sinful lifestyle is not stone throwing. Condemning those that are can certainly be. I sometimes use this illustration. If a bridge is out and we see someone heading in that direction   If we love them, we will warn them. If they have already run off the road and gone down into the ditch if we love them, we will help them to get out of the ditch that they are in.

So today as we speak the truth. May we speak the truth in love. Jesus loved the woman caught in the act of adultery. He loved her too much to tell her to remain in that lifestyle of sin.   I am glad that my three friends that came to visit me that night loved me enough to speak the truth.  I can now call them brothers in Christ. At some point I can remember the Holy Spirit assuring me that I had been forgiven. And I can also remember Him telling me to leave my lifestyle of sin and to follow Jesus Christ.

Let Us Pray

Lord, we live in a culture that often celebrates sin. We realize that when we speak the truth that we will run the risk of being called haters, or other names. Help us Lord to love people enough to speak the truth.  We know Lord Jesus that we can only be forgiven by faith in Your precious Blood that was shed on the cross. We know Lord it is only by the power of Your Holy Spirit that we can walk free from sinful lifestyles and not go back into those sinful lifestyles. Lord help us to warn those who are on the road where the bridge is out. And help us to help those who are in the ditch to get out of the ditch and on the road that You have for them. As you told the Pharisees and the Scribes on that day : “ Joh 8:12 ¶ Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”  Help us to walk in the light. And use us to help others to come out of the darkness and walk in Your marvelous light.

In Jesus Name

Amen

GET TOGETHER – He Still Speaks Today

GET TOGETHER – He Still Speaks Today
Isa 30:21 Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the way, walk in it,” Whenever you turn to the right hand Or whenever you turn to the left.(NKJV)

Most Tuesday mornings, I meet with three dear brothers and good friends and have breakfast and we share what God is doing in our lives. This morning we didn’t get to meet. I always look forward to meeting with these brothers each Tuesday. So, I was a little disappointed when we didn’t get to meet.

On the other hand, it has been a great morning. I got to take three of our grandchildren to school and that was a blessing! After I had let our grandson Judah off at the Middle School I heard the Holy Spirit tell me to drive by my good friend Richard Wilson’s house. I had been wanting to share with Richard how that God had answered some prayers that he had prayed for me and the ministry that God has given us. I also wanted him to pray with me about a ministry opportunity tomorrow night. Guess what? Richard just happened to be carrying his garbage out when I pulled up to his house. God is always right. We went inside to Richard’s prayer room and had a wonderful and powerful time of prayer.

I am so thankful that God still speaks to His people through the small still voice of the Holy Spirit today. Praise God that the Holy Spirit still speaks in the still small voice today! Jesus said that the Holy Spirit would speak to us in Joh 16:13 “However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. (NKJV) He will speak and guide us in fulfilling the mission that Jesus has called us to. Jesus said in Joh 10:27 “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. (NKJV) The Holy Spirit will allow us to hear the Master giving us direction in our lives.

The Holy Spirit today speaks to us through the Word of God. We are told in Heb 4:12” For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” When we see the word as living and active, we see that it is not just cold dry ink on some pages, but words of life. It is the Creator of the Universe speaking to us. Then when we do that, we can recognize His voice when He speaks to us with that small still voice. Jesus said in Joh 10:27 “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. (NKJV)

Another way that we hear the voice of God is when He speaks through others to us. It can be in a sermon. It can be through Biblical teaching. It can be through a brother, or sister prophesying to us. The Apostle Paul wrote in 1Co 14:1,3 ¶ Pursue love, and desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy. But he who prophesies speaks edification and exhortation and comfort to men. The Lord had used Brother Richard to prophesy over me in the past. I was also excited to tell him about how some of his words that the Holy Spirit had given him of edification and exhortation had been and were being fulfilled in the ministry that God has called us to.

So today you may be praying about direction, or some other matter in your life. To hear the small still voice you want to be sure that you spend time in the word of God. You also want to be sure that you spend time in prayer. And then and this one is sometimes the tough one for me is you must be quiet and listen to the Holy Spirit. So, get in the word. Spend time in prayer and listen to the small still voice of the Holy Spirit. And just as Isaiah heard that voice. And just as Paul heard that voice. Just as Jonah, Peter, Moses, and so many others we can hear that voice too.
Let Us Pray

Lord, we thank you that we are New Covenant Blood bought children of God. We thank You for indwelling us with and empowering us through the Holy Spirit. We thank You that You speak to us through Your word, through prayer, through Your people and through the small still voice of the Holy Spirit. Today help us to hear Your voice. Help us to obey Your voice. And help us fulfill the destiny and calling that You have for us.
In Jesus Name
Amen

GET TOGETHER – HEALING IN HIS GLORY

GET TOGETHER – HEALING IN HIS GLORY
Jas 5:16 Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.(NKJV)
One day recently the enemy attacked by body by making me sick at my stomach. I went home that day and laid down. I had several people pray for me. While I was laying down, I began to play worship music. One of the songs that I played was There Is Healing In His Glory by Lindell Cooley. Then I played several others and I just laid on the couch and read. And yes, I did take some over the counter medicine that I had bought during the afternoon.
When J.J. got home she made some chicken noodle soup. I was able to eat a little of the soup. By the next morning I was at the Huddle House and had an omelet with grits.
The first healing that J.J. and I ever got was from a stomach virus at Christmas one year. We had been throwing up all night and after we prayed, we were eating Christmas Dinner at her mom’s house.
I believe that one reason that the Lord has had me to write this is to restir in God’s people the gift of faith, and the gifts of healings in those who have it 1Co 12:9 “to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit.” And for every believer to know that we can do as James said in our opening passage and in faith believe for healing. I praise God for the saints who pray for us and that their prayers are effective! I praise God for those that prayed for me the other day and their prayers were effective! Most of all I praise God for the one who took our sickness to the cross at Calvary 1Pe 2:24 who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness–by whose stripes you were healed . (NKJV)
This post isn’t about answering why some people who have a lot of faith their healing comes in going to be with the Lord. I am thankful that when my final healing comes that is where I will be, but until that day I am so thankful that we can contend in prayer and that God will bring healing and cancel the assignments that the enemy has on our lives! Keep praying! Keep believing! Don’t let anybody talk you out of it. And give God the glory!
One more thing that I want to reemphasize I believe that Jesus wants to use His people to do what he did while He was on the earth “Ac 10:38 “how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.” He has given us the Holy Spirit. We have an anointing 1Jo 2:20 ¶ But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you know all things. He has given us the power of the Holy Spirit. We have the same Holy Spirit that he operated in and that He endued the disciples with Lu 24:49 “Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.” So, today go do good. Pray for the sick and expect God to heal them. May the Lord use this to encourage you and to bring Him glory!

Let Us Pray
Jesus, we thank You for paying the price for our healing. we thank You that by Your stripes we were healed. we thank You for sending the Holy Spirit to help us to walk in healing and to pray for others to be healed.
In Jesus Name
Amen

GET TOGETHER- FOR SUCH A TIME AS THIS

GET TOGETHER- FOR SUCH A TIME AS THIS

Es 4:14 “For if you remain completely silent at this time, relief and deliverance will arise for the Jews from another place, but you and your father’s house will perish.” Yet who knows whether you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” Ro 1:9 “For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of His Son, that without ceasing I make mention of you always in my prayers. “(NKJV)
Recently the Holy Spirit just kept speaking this passage to me in Ac 1:8 “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
I knew what He wanted me to do. He wanted me to organize an Acts 1:8 Prayer Meeting. We had done that before several years ago and God came through and is still coming through in a powerful way.
Right now, is a critical time in the Kingdom here in our city, our State, our nation, and throughout the world. We will have these Acts Prayer Meetings at Christ Community Fellowship from 12 Noon until 1:P.M. every Wednesday at least until Resurrection Sunday. And who knows after that how long that God will lead us to do that. Here is our format for the prayer meeting. I know there may be some of you that feel that a format is restrictive, but there are times that God calls us to be very strategic in our prayers. Here is how we will be praying using Acts 1:8 :

Acts 1: 8 Prayer Meeting
Ac 1:8 “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
• First 10 minutes a time to praise the Lord and to give people an opportunity to pray for ourselves ( There may be things that we need to repent from)
• 2nd 10 minutes Pray for our City (Jerusalem) we would cover our schools, government, workplaces, churches and as the Holy Spirit leads people to pray for in our city.
• 3rd 10 minutes we would pray for our State and region (Judea)
• 4th 10 minutes we would pray for our nation ( Samaria)
• 5th 10 minutes we would pray for the world (end of the earth)
• Last ten minutes As the Holy Spirt leads and close.

All who believe that this is a critical time to pray concerning our families, our city, our region, State, and the world are invited to come. This is about the Kingdom of God. I will lead the meeting every other week and then someone else will lead it every other week. If you can’t come here this could be a good format to use in your home, your church, or in some other way. If all of my Facebook friends in other cities, States, and nations are not currently involved in some prayer strategy you might pray about using this.
A few weeks ago, I posted a picture of me and our grandchildren. So many of you had something good to say about that. I enjoy sports and our grandchildren that are old enough play ball. But what kind of future they have will depend upon how much that we are praying at this time in the Kingdom than what they are doing on the field, the court, or anywhere else.
Recently I watched as students waited in line for hours to watch their favorite football team play in a big game on television at a sports bar. Around that same time at another campus students camped out all night in the cold to be sure and get a seat at their favorite team’s basketball game. People will sacrifice for the things that they have a passion for.
Esther knew that it was a critical time in the Kingdom. The Apostle Paul knew that it was a critical time in the Kingdom. For those that live in our city would you pray about coming if this is a good time for you? think about it to sacrifice your lunch break once a week could effect things in your family, our city, our region, our State ,our nation, and the world in an eternal way.
For those outside of our city would you pray about using this, or any other way that the Holy Spirit leads you to pray? We are called for such a time as this.

Let Us Pray
Lord Jesus we know that You died for the whole world. We know that You let us partner with You in bringing the Kingdom of God to the earth. I pray for all that read this that the Holy Spirit will lead them to pray without ceasing for such a time as this.
In Jesus Name
Amen

GET TOGETHER- THE PERFECT MODEL AND THE PERFECT HELPER

GET TOGETHER- THE PERFECT MODEL AND THE PERFECT HELPER

Mt 9:9 ¶ As Jesus passed on from there, He saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax office. And He said to him, “Follow Me.” So he arose and followed Him.

I don’t know if any of you have this challenge, but it is a challenge to me sometimes.  I often pray Lord help me to be loving, but without compromising.  Well, we have the perfect Model. His name is Jesus Christ. We have the perfect Helper, the Holy Spirit that indwells the believer in Jesus Christ.

Matthew was a Tax Collector. Tax Collectors were despised by their fellow Jews. They collected taxes for the Romans and often used extortion to pad their own pocketbooks off their fellow Jews.  And in this passage, we see Matthew get up from his tax collectors booth and follow Jesus.  He was leaving a lucrative and unscrupulous business to follow Jesus.

In verse 10 we see that Jesus associated with sinners. Mt 9:10 “Now it happened, as Jesus sat at the table in the house, that behold, many tax collectors and sinners came and sat down with Him and His disciples.” The Pharisees criticized Him for this.  Mt 9:11 “And when the Pharisees saw it, they said to His disciples, “Why does your Teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?”

When Jesus heard this, He answered their question Mt 9:12,13 “When Jesus heard that, He said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. “But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy and not sacrifice.’ For I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.”  Jesus loves sinners unconditionally. He also loves sinners that repent of their sin too much to leave us in the condition that He found us in.

Those who repented must have been able to tell that there was something different about this man than the Pharisees. Perhaps they could tell that He had a genuine love for them and a care for not only where they would spend eternity, but a concern for their lives here on earth as well.

Jesus loves sinners. And yet He never compromised truth.  Sometimes my challenge is that I am concerned that I will compromise truth because I want people to like me. Then the challenge becomes how can I do this without being a Pharisee.

Well, the perfect Model has given us the perfect Helper. Joh 14:26 “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.

Joh 16:13 “However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. (NKJV)

When Jesus came to the earth He operated in the anointing of the  Holy Spirit. He did this voluntarily to help us. To show us how to do it.  We are told in Ac 10:38 “how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.  (NKJV)

Here are just a couple of reasons that He has given us the Holy Spirit. He has given us the Holy Spirit to help us love as He loved. He has given us the Holy Spirit so that we can do as He commanded us to do in Mt 28:19 “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”   We won’t go to a people that we don’t love. We can’t make disciples out of people that we don’t love.

Again, He is the Perfect Model, and He has given us the Perfect Helper.  We are told in Joh 1:14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. (NKJV)    He will give us the grace to love and He will enable us to speak the truth.  Ask Him to help you to love as He did. Ask Him to help you to live truth, speak truth, teach truth, and to love people into the Kingdom.

Let Us Pray

Lord today in a culture that is so hostile to Biblical truth on so many things it is easy to get hardened  an calloused. On the other hand, Lord, we sometimes are afraid that by loving those who have not yet come into the Kingdom that we may in some way compromise and begin to allow the culture to change us rather than us being used to change the culture. Holy Spirit help us to love as Jesus did. and help us to speak truth and live truth as He did.

In Jesus Name

Amen
