GET TOGETHER- Staying Merciful
Mt 5:7 Blessed are the merciful, For they shall obtain mercy.
This verse comes from the Sermon On the Mount. It is the most famous sermon ever preached by the Greatest Preacher to ever walk on the face of the earth. I have often thought that it might have been one of the least Amened sermons ever preached because it really brings us to a place of evaluating our own hearts. I Amen good messages. and to say that an Amen isn’t encouraging when you are preaching I wouldn’t be honest. But I believe in this message that it would have been a time for every individual to look within their own hearts in such a way that there would have been a lot of forgive me Lord’s.
We live in a very hostile culture now. At times if we don’t ask for the Lord’s help our hearts can get hard. There is no doubt that we are to stand for the truth. And the truth isn’t always popular and as a matter of fact there is a lot of hostility to the truth.
On the other hand, it might be a good thing to think about just how much mercy that some of us have received. There was an old song that I had never heard before we that we sang at the first church that we Pastored. The name of the song was “Justice Called and Mercy Answered.”
I know that we serve a just God. But praise God that He is also a merciful God. I praise God that to satisfy His justice that He sent His only begotten Son Jesus Christ to die on the cross for our sins. We are told in 1Pe 3:18 ¶ For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit,(NKJV)
I don’t know about you, but there are times that the enemy will bring up the sins of my past. I am so glad that I have received the mercy of the Lord at the Cross of Jesus Christ. Ga 6:14 But God forbid that I should boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. Eph 2:16,17 and that He might reconcile them both to God in one body through the cross, thereby putting to death the enmity. And He came and preached peace to you who were afar off and to those who were near. (NKJV)
We serve a Holy God. I am so thankful that He is holy. But I am also thankful that He is merciful. We are told again to be a merciful people Jas 2:13 For judgment is without mercy to the one who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment. (NKJV) I am so thankful that I have seen Him save sinners who were with weeks, or days of death. People that many of us would have written off, but praise God, that He didn’t write them off. No, I don’t believe everyone goes to Heaven. But everyone who repents of their sins and put their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ does Ro 10:13 For “whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved.” (NKJV)
How about you? Are you a merciful person? If you are saved have you thought about how much mercy that you have received? Or perhaps you have never called on the Name of the Lord to save you from your sins. If you are willing to repent and put your faith in His shed blood to save you from your sins, you can receive His mercy today. May all of us that have received His mercy never cease to thank Him and praise Him for the abundant mercy that He has shown us. And may we be as merciful to others as a people that have received mercy.
Let Us Pray
Lord there are enough words to thank You for the mercy that You show to us as Your children. Today help us to be as merciful to others as You have been to us.
In Jesus Name
Amen
Love you all !
