GET TOGETHER- PRAY THE WORD
Col 1:9-11 For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, for all patience and longsuffering with joy;
I am so thankful for the many ways that we are told that we can pray in the Bible. We know that the Lord gave us an example in the prayer that we often refer to as the Lord’s Prayer. Jesus also gave us other examples like the neighbor who was out of bread and when a visitor came, he kept knocking on the door until he got an answer. Sometimes some of us pray in an unknown tongue. So in the Bible we often see differ examples of prayer. The main thing is for the Holy Spirit to be praying through us as we pray for others. Because He knows what is on the Father’s heart. And He will put it on our heart.
A dear friend of mine and J.J.’s sister Carolyn Lovelady from Dora, Alabama helped us to learn about the importance and the power of praying the word for others, over others, and concerning certain situations. This week as I was reading the Book of Colossians, I was reminded of this when Paul shared how that he was praying for the church at Colossae. As I look at that prayer, I would just like to share with you some things that I gleaned from that and how that I believe that we can pray that prayer for ourselves and for others.
First, Paul tells the people that he prays for them regularly. That is a good thing for all of us. We are to pray for our congregations, our family, our friends, our co-workers, and yes, our enemies. We should do that regularly as the Holy Spirit leads us.
He prays that they be filled with the knowledge of God’s will in wisdom and spiritual understanding. Isn’t that a good thing for us to pray for anyone and for everyone?
He prays that they would glorify the Lord. Please pray that for me and that I would not be a glory seeker but would glorify the Lord.
He prays that they would please God. Wow! What if everyone in our family, our church, our community, our nation, and in the world was pleasing God at the present time?
He prays that they will be fruitful in every good work. Could not our churches be used to change the world if every believer in Jesus Christ was being fruitful in every good work?
So today if at times you may feel like you want to be sure to pray the will of God over someone’s life, or a church, or any other situation. Pray the word of God. We have a promise in Isa 55:11 “So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.” Pray it! Believe it and stand on it!
Before I close, I ask you to pray for our good friends Richard and Carolyn Lovelady. They are having some serious health issues at the present time. Please keep their son Scott, their daughter Gina, and their families in your prayers at this time.
One more thing. There has never been a more important time in the Kingdom for us to be a people that pray as I have just talked about than now. And there has never been a more important time for us to be an answer to someone’s prayer than at this time
Let Us Pray
Lord we thank You that You have given us the freedom to come boldly before Your throne of grace. Forgive us when we have taken that for granted. For all that read this I pray today that you will birth new life into prayer lives of those who may have grown weary. May we know that You can use us in ways that we cannot ask or imagine when we get serious about our prayer lives.
In Jesus Name
Amen
Love you all
Your Friend/Kinfolk
