GET TOGETHER- He Still Speaks
Joh 14:26 “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.
The first place that I look to hear from God is the Word of God. When we do that then we are positioned to know when we are hearing the small still voice of the Holy Spirit. Because His voice will always line up with the Word of God.
So, with that said as I shared last week God will sometimes speak to us through his creation and in other ways that will always line up with the Word of God. Let me get this straight with you before I go any further, I don’t go around looking for signs. On the other hand, throughout out the years God has used certain things to speak to me through the Holy Spirit.
I praise the Lord that He speaks to us through other Christians. This morning two dear brothers in the Lord prophesied over me, and every bit of it lined up with the Word of God and things that I have prayed and sought God about. The Apostle Paul had this to say to the church at Corinth, “1Co 14:3 But he who prophesies speaks edification and exhortation and comfort to men.”
By the time I got home I already saw some of what he prophesied manifesting. Sometimes and in most cases it may take longer. Also, I know that the best is still yet to come, because what they prophesied lined up with a couple of words that some dear brothers had sent me a few weeks ago.
Last week I mentioned that certainly we are not one with nature, we are humans created in the Image of God. Sometimes God will speak to us in that way and in other ways that as I said would always line up with the Word of God. Let me give you some examples. Again, this is not for you to go looking for a sign, but if you will spend time in prayer and in the Word, you will hear from God.
A couple of weeks ago we were visiting our son and his family in Missouri. The enemy was trying to rob me of my joy during our visit. I knew that there were some important ministry assignments coming up and the enemy was trying to attack my mind concerning these assignments. While I was outside, I looked up and saw a dove on the top of Jake and Tommye’s house. That was a reminder to me that the Holy Spirit was with us. We are told in Hebrews 13:5 that Jesus made a promise to His disciples, and that means us “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”(NKJV) That dove was a reminder to me of that promise.
Holy Spirit would speak to me through seeing a dove. Let me emphasize something here the Holy Spirit isn’t a dove. He is the third person of the Godhead. He indwells the believer in Jesus Christ, and He will speak to us. I have seen doves at key times here in Alabama, Peru, Romania, Guatemala, and perhaps in other countries that I have ministered in. They remind me of the angelic protection that God puts around his servants. We are told in Ps 34:7 The angel of the LORD encamps all around those who fear Him And delivers them.
So today first I want to encourage you to get in the Word of God. That is the most reliable place to ever hear from God. Then I want to encourage you to live a life of prayer. And while not looking for a sign have your spirit in tune with the Holy Spirit that when He speaks to you in some way that you will know that it is Him. Jesus spoke these words after talking with the disciples about the Father sending the Holy Spirit. He said in John 14:27 “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
Don’t ever limit the ways in which the Holy Spirit may speak to you to bring comfort when Hell is throwing its best shots at you.
Let Us Pray
Lord, we thank you that you speak to your children. We are reminded in Joh 10:27 “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. (NKJV) Thank you Jesus for by the Holy Spirit speaking to us in various ways. Help us all to spend time in Your Word, and in prayer. We know that when we do that, we can hear Your voice when you speak to us through signs, wonders, and through Your people.
