GET TOGETHER – THERE IS COMING A DAY

1Th 4:16,18 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words. (NKJV)

This past week as some of you know I had the great blessing of getting to share Jesus Christ at my Alma Mater the annual Dora High School Alumni Banquet.  It was such a glorious time seeing some old friends, classmates, and some wonderful Brothers and Sisters in Christ.  What a great blessing to get to see some people that I had not seen in years.  I also got to meet some people that I had not known previously.

When I was reflecting on this, I thought about how great that it will be when we get to Heaven. There will be people such as our loved ones and friends that we have not seen in years there to meet us. We won’t be restricted by time. We will be able to fellowship for as long as we like.

Think about it. We will meet people that we have never met before. We will meet the Apostle Paul and Peter. We will meet Rahab, and the woman at the well!  We will meet Jesus’ brothers and sisters. We will meet His Mother Mary and Joseph. We will meet  all the Old Testament saints as well as the New Testament ones! We will meet all the disciples. We will meet the saints that were martyred and are still being martyred for the faith. What a day that will be! And most of all we will meet Jesus! The One who took our sins upon Himself on Calvary’s cross. We will get to touch His nail scarred hands. We will get to worship and adore Him without any distractions, or time limits.

In the passage above two things that really give me great peace is that Paul says that “we will always be with the Lord.”  And “comfort one another with these words.”   What joy to know that we will be there forever and ever!  What a blessing that we can comfort one another with those words.

Now on the other hand there were some people that I would have like to have seen that were not there this past Saturday night. Some have already gone to be with the Lord. Others I am sure like me in a lot of years could not come because of family, or other commitments and many other good reasons.

When we get to Heaven there may be some people that aren’t there either. Unlike those that could not come to the Banquet because of other important activities in their lives. These may have turned down the invitation that Jesus Christ was offering to come to His Banquet which will be the greatest Banquet of all time.  The Apostle John wrote about it in Re 19:9 Then he said to me, “Write: ‘Blessed are those who are called to the marriage supper of the Lamb!'” And he said to me, “These are the true sayings of God.”

Jesus talks about those who were invited but chose not to come in Matthew 22:1-14. In  Mt 22:1-3 we see that some turned down the invitation.  “ And Jesus answered and spoke to them again by parables and said: “The kingdom of heaven is like a certain king who arranged a marriage for his son, “and sent out his servants to call those who were invited to the wedding; and they were not willing to come.” Within the rest of that passage, we see that those who turned down the invitation, or tried to get in by some other way than through Jesus Christ perished.  In verse12 and 13 we see what happens to those who refuse the invitation or try to come in by some other way. That could be either by their own works, a belief in a false god, as an atheist, or turning down the invitation for any reason  : Mt 22:12,13  “So he said to him, ‘Friend, how did you come in here without a wedding garment?’ And he was speechless. “Then the king said to the servants, ‘Bind him hand and foot, take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’

For those that have accepted that invitation we can rejoice for that time that the Apostle John speaks about in Re 21:1-6 :

Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea. Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God.”And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.” Then He who sat on the throne said, “Behold, I make all things new.” And He said to me, “Write, for these words are true and faithful.” And He said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. I will give of the fountain of the water of life freely to him who thirsts.

What a day that will be! If you have accepted the invitation let Him, use you to issue it to others. If you haven’t let today be the day that you do. I want to see you there and rejoice with you in the presence of God! As the old song goes “What a Day that will be when my Jesus I shall see!”  It’s going to be out of this world!

Let Us Pray

Lord Jesus, we thank You that You have paid the price for us to live forever in Your presence. We thank you for the promise of reuniting with our loved ones and friends that are in Christ. We thank You that we will have an opportunity to meet so many others as we worship You and fellowship with the saints throughout eternity. May all that read this that are born again walk in the assurance of Your atoning sacrifice on the cross. For any that have not accepted this invitation please draw them by the Holy Spirit to that place where they say yes to you.

In Jesus Name

Amen!

Love You All
