GET TOGETHER- Our New Identity

GET TOGETHER- Our New Identity

2Co 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. Ro 8:37 Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.(NKJV)

One of the greatest things about being born again is that we get a new identity.  Jesus told Nicodemus in Joh 3:3 Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”   We are told in Joh 1:12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name.”   So, although all human beings are made in the Image of God. It is only when we repent of our sin and put our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ to save us from our sins that we become children of God and enter into his Kingdom.

Paul said it like this in Eph 2:1-3  And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins, in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience, among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others. So, once we have been born again, we are no longer children of wrath living under the influence of Satan. We are now reborn. We are a new creation. We get a new identity.

I want to just share a little about what part of that new identity means. We once may have had an identity as an alcoholic, a druggie, a tightwad, or any number of names that people hung on us because of the sins that we were engaging in at that time.  But when we come to Christ, we get a new name and a new identity.

Part of that new identity is that we become more than conquerors! The Apostle Paul wrote in Ro 8:37 Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.(NKJV) Think about that for a minute. We are more than conquerors!  In the Bible were a lot of conquerors.  The Assyrians overthrew the Northern Kingdom of Israel and conquered that part of the promised land. They were conquerors. However, they were not more than conquerors. They would get conquered by the Babylonians. They also conquered the Southern Kingdom of Judah and destroyed the Temple in Jerusalem. They were conquerors, but they were not more than conquerors.

They got conquered by the Persians.  They were conquerors, but they were not more than conquerors.  They got conquered by Alexander the Great and the Greeks. They were conquerors, but they were not more than conquerors.

They would get conquered by the Romans. They were conquerors, but they were not more than conquerors.  And we know that eventually the Roman Empire collapsed. They were conquerors, but they were not more than conquerors.

Our culture looks kind of scary in our part of the world as well as in other parts of the world. I can’t remember our nation ever being as divided as it is right now. And I also never thought that I would see the open hostility to a Biblical worldview as we do in our nation today. But on the other hand, we are told that we are more than conquerors! As you pray for your family pray as more than a conqueror. As you pray for our nation and Christians throughout the world pray as more than a conqueror!  May we all live as more than conquerors. There is more good news when we read the verses preceding this verse and following it :

Ro 8:35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written: “For Your sake we are killed all day long; We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.” Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.(NKJV)

There may be some conquerors out there today that are trying to rob us of our peace and to attempt to inhibit the Kingdom of God from advancing. But you and I can rejoice in this. We are more than conquerors!  The Psalmist says it like this in Ps 37:39,40 But the salvation of the righteous is from the LORD; He is their strength in the time of trouble. And the LORD shall help them and deliver them; He shall deliver them from the wicked, And save them, Because they trust in Him. (NKJV)   So today child of God trust in the Lord. He is with us! And He will help us to walk in our identity as more than conquerors. Don’t quit! Victory is on the way! He has never lost a battle. So once again Child of God walk as More Than a Conqueror today!

Let Us Pray

Lord Jesus, we thank You that You have given us a new identity. We thank You that You didn’t leave us alone. We thank you that by the Holy Spirit and getting in Your Holy Word that we can live out our lives as More Than Conquerors here on this earth. And we can also look forward to living and reigning with You forever and ever in Heaven one day. Thank You for making us More Than Conquerors!

In Jesus Name

Amen
